Ballard Locks
Officially the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, this engineering marvel allows boat traffic to pass from Lake Washington into Puget Sound but prevents the lake, at higher elevation, from draining into the Sound. See the pesky sea lions devouring the spawning salmon!
